Varsity of Maneuvers is an office for collaborative art projects. It was intiated by the artist Birgit Auf der Lauer (D) and Jorda Planellas (ES) in Bristol (UK) 2008. Meanwhile the artists Caspar Pauli, Anja Bodanowitz and Malte Beisenherz and create in different constellations performative and participatory projects, that are located in the area of artistic urban research.

A recurring artistic strategy is the critical confrontation of the sensual (walking, hiking, canoeing, climbing, drawing) with the intellectual: data, facts, history and cartography. Both are combined to from parts of performative tours, events through urban and rural spaces and art installations.

One goal is to establish lasting useful infrastructures: like a walking path (Jorda and Birgit, Italy 2008), a platform for socially engaged and site specific performance art (Sylvia Rimat and Birgit, Bristol 2007: You and Your Work), a raft for school lessons in the city for the Nürtingen Primary School (2011, Anja and Birgit) and the Canoe Club for the Exploration of the City (with Caspar Pauli, Anja Bodanowitz, Artur van Balen, Timo Szepanska and the Kreuzberg Museum currently in Berlin). Most projects are developed with the participation of different groups of people and supported by institutions inside and outside the arts.

Varsity of Maneuvers ist ein Büro für kollaborative Kunstprojekte und wurde von den KünstlerInnen Birgit Auf der Lauer (D) und Jorda Plannellas (ES) 2008 in Bristol (GB) ins Leben gerufen. Mittlerweile arbeiten auch die KünstlerInnen Caspar Pauli, Anja Bodanowitz und Malte Beisenherz in verschiedenen Konstellationen an performativen und partizipativen Projekten, die im Bereich der künstlerischen Stadt- und Raumforschung angesiedelt sind.

Eine wiederkehrende künstlerische Strategie ist die Konfrontation des Sinnlichen (Gehen, Wandern, Kanufahren, Klettern, Zeichnen) mit intellektuellem 'Material': Daten, Fakten, Kartographie und Geschichte. Beides wird kombiniert und ist Teil von künstlerischen Rechercheprozessen, Installationen und performativen Touren/ Events durch urbane (und rurale) Umgebungen.

Ein Ziel ist es nachhaltige Infrastrukturen zu schaffen: Wie zum Beispiel einen Wanderpfad (Jorda und Birgit, 2008 in Italien), eine Plattform für orts- spezifische und sozial engagierte Performance Kunst You and Your Work (Sylvia Rimat und Birgit, 2007 in Bristol), ein Floß für den Schulunterricht in der Stadt (Anja und Birgit, Nürtingen Grundschule 2011) und einen Kanuclub zur Erforschung der Stadt (momentan in Berlin mit: Birgit Auf der Lauer, Caspar Pauli, Anja Bodanowitz, Artur van Balen, Timo Szepanska und dem Kreuzberg Museum).

Die meisten Projekte sind mit verschiedenen Gruppen und durch die Unterstützung von Institutionen innerhalb und außerhalb der Künste realisiert.
